January free and fun days out
Dear Subscriber
There are some great free family events around at the moment, as well as some January offers to make you aware of, so  your second newsletter this month comes hot on the heels of the last one!  Don't forget to email your ideas for free family days out this Spring - I have some great ideas coming through already - a box of awesome gifts is the prize for the top 5 ideas - the competition ends 31st January 2014.  Best wishes, Sarah.
Ice Sculpting Festival this weekend!
The annual Ice Sculpting Festival is this weekend in Canary Wharf, it's a great free family event taking place Saturday and Sunday.   Either sign up to the free masterclasses on the day, or enjoy watching the masters at work.   There will be no snow pit this year as stated in my previous newsletter - but the event still promises to be a great day out for all ages.
January & February offers on London tours
January is the month for special offers from the tour guide companies.   Download a voucher to enjoy City Cruises for just £5 per adult for a whole day hopping on and off boats on the River Thames.   Children up to 16 years are £2.50, and under 5's goes free.   The vouchers are valid until 13th February.
The 'Original Bus Tours' are still expensive at £70 for a family ticket bought online, but their winter offer up to 28th February is to extend the normal time length for their tickets from 24 hours to 48 hours - so maybe something to consider over a weekend or the half-term break?
The Big Bus tours company is cheaper at £50 for a family ticket and £46 during the half-term - again with the special offer of the ticket being valid for 48 hours until 28th February.
The Arts Catalyst presents .......
Back to events that are free - there are some special art workshops arranged by the Arts Catalyst organisation which are taking place this Sunday 12th January and Sunday 19th January.   Book via their website to ensure you have a place at the workshops which are taking place at the Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf.
Sun 12 January, 2–5pm –  Imagine a mission to the Moon and using various art and craft techniques design and make space diaries, logbooks, rocket manuals, Moon flags and mission badges. For 5–11 year olds.
Sun 19 January, 2.30–4.30pm –  Join a space adventure re-enacting the history of Moon landings, making space vehicles and a light-based lunar installation for a new mission. Suitable for ages 8+
Clowning around
Looking ahead to Sunday 2nd February is the wonderful annual Church service attended by clowns in memory of Joseph Grimaldi.   The service starts at 3pm, and after the service the clowns often entertain the crowds with impromptu shows.  The service takes place at Holy Trinity Church, Beechwood Road, Dalston.
