Family fun in May
Dear Subscriber
This newsletter is focussed on highlights for the May Day weekend, as well as events you need to book now for the half-term holiday at the end of May, for example, fancy a free tour of the garden at 10 Downing Street? Details are on the 'book ahead' section at the end of the newsletter.  Also featured are tips for getting BBC Proms summer event tickets - booking line opens Saturday 11th May.  Any further tips and ideas for events are always welcome - send me an email, Tweet or Facebook post.
Many thanks, Leonora
May Day madness!
If you are looking for a traditional country show - the Blindley Heath Country Fair takes place 5th & 6th May in Lingfield.
A great opportunity to go bluebell spotting this weekend - try Painshill Park, or put your postcode into the Visit Woods website to find a bluebell walk close to where you live.
For activities in London - try the Drake Fun day, 4th May, on the Golden Hinde - they do a great job using professional actors to bring to life the adventures of Drake and his crew mates, or check out the free May Day activities at Museum of London Docklands, 6th May.
Book in May for BBC Proms (12th July to 7th September)
The headline act for families this year is the Dr Who Prom which takes place 10.30am, Sunday 14th July.  Ticket prices have crept up again this year and are £12 per person.   However, there are some free supporting activities such as Prom intros, storytelling, and 'play along' sessions.   All the details can be found on the listing for families.
The tickets for the headline acts sold out within hours last year, so to make sure you are in with a chance, here are my tips:
1) Sign up to the Royal Albert Hall's Proms Planner system before Friday 10th May
2) Get on the computer first thing Saturday 11th to convert your wish list into a firm booking.
3) Be Patient! you will be queuing online for at least half-an-hour.
Important - don't use a mobile device, e.g. phone or tablet, for queuing.  The reason is that each time the device goes into energy save mode you lose your place in the queue!
