Woodland trails and outdoor fun
Priory Farm in Nutfield, Surrey has continued to innovate their Discovery Trail with the addition of a wooden pirate ship - there are also daily activities to entertain children.
The Horniman Museum have a particularly good Nature Trail discovery walk 14th, 21st & 28th August - this is a free activity, and access to this great Museum is free as well.
Crockford Bridge Farm gives you an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors while you pick great value fruit and veg for your dinner!
Quirky ideas for indoor fun
Learn to make your own ice cream at the London Canal Museum.  The museum is the location of a former Ice Warehouse, hence the link to Ice Cream!
The wonderful Geffrye Museum have a range of free activities for children daily from Tuesday 13th August to Friday 16th August - this is the last week of their programme of summer activities for families.
One of my favourite locations is the Golden Hinde -  although it's not free, I think it's great value for money.   Consider their Tudor Fun Day 15th August.
Also - the Imperial War Museum has now re-opened after major refurbishment.    They have a new Horrible Histories themed exhibition.
Looking ahead to September..........
The Weald of Kent Craft & Design show, near Tonbridge, takes place 6 - 8th September.   The entry price for adults is £5 if you buy in advance (£7 on the day), and children go free.
The Heritage Open days are the following weekend - starting 12th September, giving a unique opportunity to look inside lots of buildings of historic interest - completely free of charge!   This link takes you to the 48 free activities for families in Surrey - use the 'advanced search' option on their website to find activities wherever you are in the country.
London isn't part of the Heritage Open weekend scheme, and it has it's own event Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd September when hundreds of locations are open to the public completely free of charge.   Opening times and activities vary - the ones that are specifically family friendly are on this link.

The Tour of Britain cycling event comes to Surrey again on Saturday 21st September  - full details of the route are available on an interactive map
