Half term family days out

I can hardly believe that half-term is nearly upon us - I hope the weather picks up to help us enjoy some great family days out next week.  Below are tips for outdoor and indoor activities and some diary dates for June.   Don't forget you can search from the 50+ half-term activities on the Fab Family Days website by putting your preferred day and location into the search function.   Let me know if you have any new locations/events to recommend.

Free indoor London events for kids
The British Museum have daily activities related to their Pompeii exhibition which are free but they recommend you book ahead to reserve your place for the storytelling sessions.  The Pompeii exhibition itself is £12.50 for adults, children under 16 go free.
The Science Museum have some great activities for those into computers and gadgets, for example - Compute This! a daily show starting at 1pm, and SM: Art Mechanics where children get the chance to build their own mini-bot, daily sessions at 12, 2 and 4pm.
The Bank of England Museum have free activities where the characters from the bank notes come to life, there are also quizzes and other fun stuff to do.
Tips for outdoor activities
Hatchlands Park have pony rides and archery on offer over the bank holiday weekend, there is a small charge on top of the entry price to this National Trust property.
Priory Farm have revamped their Discovery Walk with a Scarecrow theme and is open daily over the half-term.
Alice Holt Forest is a wonderful free to access location.  Their den building event costs £8 per child – pre-booking required for this.
Or delve into the world of Swallows and Amazons at Headley Heath, Pond dip, den build and track wild animals, 31st May 10am to 5pm, £5 per child

Looking ahead.........
Do you have a budding architect in the family?  The London Festival of Architecture starts 1st June and has some great free events taking place across a range of London locations.  The Festival works with partners to stage architecture related activities across the city.
Surrey Wildlife Festival is 8th & 9th June.  Family ticket £10.   A chance to get up close and personal to your local wildlife, meet the animals, take part in games and enjoy face painting and the food and drink stalls.
London Open Squares Weekend is 8th & 9th June.  Children under 12 go free, adult tickets are £10 each and this gets you access to over 200 gardens across London.   The types of gardens open for this special event include historical private squares to contemporary roof gardens, prisons and barges.
Kids Week booking line opens 18th June.  Make sure you have the date in your diary so that you can book your August discount tickets for West End shows, and free backstage events.
