Bank of England Museum

Day out location essentials

Located within the heart of the city, the Bank of England Museum takes you through the history of the bank since its foundation in 1694 to its role today as the nation’s central bank.

There’s something for everyone, with attractions including activity sheets for children of all ages, banknote jigsaw, a roller ball game, interactive displays and the opportunity for some safe cracking! Visitors can also take the helm of a virtual boat game and set monetary policy to keep inflation on a stable course. The Museum is also the only place in the UK where you can handle a genuine gold bar, although, weighing 13kg, it will take many people by surprise!

During school holidays, the museum runs special events designed for the whole family, from storytellers to craft workshops.
